Kindergarten alphabet worksheets help with the development of language comprehension and linguistic skills. Language also forms the basis of thinking. Language skills include: association, classification, creativity, general insight, logical reasoning, memory, sequence of events, print and alphabet knowledge.
Print is everywhere and if you are planning to teach your child the letters of the alphabet, then the best place to start, will be with their names.
Using kindergarten alphabet worksheets are great but if you want to teach the complete alphabet sounds and names you will need a program or curriculum that is fun and interactive.
In all my years of homeschooling, I’ve realized that most kids do not learn to sound out the letters of the alphabet anymore. I’ve seen kids that are in third grade and they still can’t read properly, so I’ve created an easy to follow lesson plan called “The Alphabet Adventure”. The lesson plan features 26-weeks of pre-planned lessons. Your kindergartner will learn one letter a week. It will help you achieve those important skills they require for reading as it includes crafts, bible stories, nursery rhymes, ABC worksheets and lots of activities.
Knowing the alphabet letter names and the sounds are important as it will make it easier to understand that these letters actually form words that tell you something. After lots of practicing and enjoying the worksheets with your child, you can start looking more seriously at the beginning stages of reading.
The kindergarten alphabet worksheets are self–explanatory but I suggest that you teach the letter of the sound first prior to using the worksheets. There are various ways in teaching the letter. Rhyming, stories, clay work, drawing the letter in the sand, coloring pages and many other activities can re-enforce the letter they are learning. I will soon upload a free sample of my book to give you an idea. But, in the meantime we have free printable kindergarten worksheets below for your convenience.
